USMC Rat (rugged All Terrain) Boot Review

The New USMC RAT (Rugged All Terrain) Boots were designed and Issued for Marines in Afghanistan.

The purpose of the Rugged All Terrain (RAT) boot is for it to be worn by Marines in various operations and environments. The altitude of the environment where the boots will be used is 0-6,000 feet of elevation.

The RAT provides greater abrasion resistant properties in the toe and heel due to the impregnated leather. This property gives the Marine the ability to kick steps in snow and ice due to the impregnated leather toe cap.

The boot can perform on varying degrees of slopes from 0-90 degrees and a variety of terrain types to include but not limited to rock, loose soil, mud, snow and alpine ice.

Due to the stitch down construction, the RAT boot will provide good traction for maneuverability in the above environments and terrain as well as a greater base of stability.

RAT Temperate Weather boots perform in mountain cold weather/mountain operations, but not limited to these environments. The RAT will greatly enhance the Marines ability with things such as hiking, snowshoeing, backcountry movements on skis and moderate rock climbing. In normal conditions the life expectancy is 18 months. The boot will support a load of 100 additional pounds not counting the naked body weight. The boot is designed to provide a level of comfort up to + 20 degrees F with an insulated sock being used.
